The field of organic chemistry includes more than twenty million compounds for which properties have been determined and recorded in the literature. Many hundreds of new compounds are added every day. Much more than half of the world's chemists are organic chemists. Organic chemistry is the study of carbon and the study of the chemistry of life. Since not all carbon reactions are organic, another way to look at organic chemistry would be to consider it the study of molecules containing the carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bond and their reactions. An organic chemical, also referred to as an organic compound, is defined as being constructed of molecules that possess carbon-based atoms. Specifically, it is composed of carbon atoms attached to hydrogen atoms, together with a variety of other elements from functional groups, such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, etc. Usually, an organic chemical is covalently bonded, meaning that electrons are shared between atoms. This characteristic is why organic chemicals can be structured in a variety of long chains and rings and form bonds with the great stability. Ved Parkash Patial did B.Sc. from Panjab University Chandigarh and M.Sc. From HP University Shimla with specialization in Organic Chemistry. After qualifying NET-JRF of CSIR, he completed Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Himachal Pradesh University. He is having teaching experience of more than 20 years in various Undergraduate and Post Graduate colleges of Himachal Pradesh. He has published more than a dozen research papers in various national and international journals. He Guided more than fifteen research scholars for M. Phil. Degree and presently guiding Ph.D. scholars also. He has been selected by UPSC New Delhi as Reader of Chemistry, NDA, Khadakwasla Pune, awarded PDF by UGC New Delhi and had been a member of various Academic and Science Societies. Presently he is working as Associate Professor of Chemistry, Govt. Post Graduate College Dharamshala (H.P.) India.
