This book attempts to unify the field of bioinorganic chemistry by identifying the principles that have emerged and arranging them in a logical and consistent order. “Bioinorganic Chemistry“ is at the gate-way of inorganic chemistry and biochemistry, i.e. it describes the mutual relationship between these two sub-disciplines, with focus upon the function of inorganic “substances“ in living systems, including the transport, speciation and, eventually, mineralisation of inorganic materials, and including the use of inorganics in medicinal therapy and diagnosis. A surprising number of drugs contain metals. This theme relies ons the study of the design and mechanism of action of metal-containing pharmaceuticals, and compounds that interact with endogenous metal ions in enzyme active sites. This diverse field includes the platinum and ruthenium anti-cancer drugs (e.g. cisplatin), chelating agents, gold drug chaperones, and gadolinium contrast agents. Lithium carbonate has been used to treat the manic phase of bipolar disorder. Antiarthritic drugs, e.g. auranofinare based on gold. Each chapter in the book is self contained and is consistent with the general aim of the book. Dr. Tilak Ram Prajapati is Ph.D in chemistry from CCS university Meerut (UP) and registered for D.Sc. in the same university. During his long and varied experience he worked as Lecturer in Sahu Jain College, Najibabad (Bijnor) UP and Vardhaman College, Bijnor UP under MJP Rohilkhand university ,Bareilly (UP) , but at present in Govt. PG College, Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) . He has more than one decade of teaching experience to B.Sc. and M.Sc. students and guiding research students. He has published international and national papers and attended seminars, workshops and conferences on chemistry and ineter disciplinary subjects.
