Dr. Om Kishor Singh having passed M. Sc. (Botany)in the year 1998 from Udai Pratap Autonomous College in first class and securing second topper rank in the order of merit, joined Ph. D. course in the year 1999 at Centre of Advanced Study in Botany (Department of Botany), Banaras Hindu University. He started working there on the challenging topic Cytogenetical and Physilogical study of some Palm Species (Arecaceae). Prior to this,major work on the cytogenetics of these plants was carried out only during 1950s in the Laboratory of Prof A.K.Sharma at Calcutta University. Except morphological,economic importance and other few aspects nobody could dare to work on these beautiful monocotylidons for a long time until the author undertook the job to work out this problem. The present work is outcome of nearly 6 years long and dedicated research work under the supervision of Prof. B.K. Roy who is the student of Late Prof. R.P. Roy and who runs the only Laboratory of Cytogenetics of higher plants in the Botany Department of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Dr. Singh has published four full papers in journals of national and internal repute. He has also published nearly a dozen articles both in English and Hindi magazines and news papers. He has organized one national seminar as convener and delivered lectures in two dozen conferences. He is life member of The Indian Science Congress Association (Kolkata) and International Society for Tropical Ecology, (BHU, Varanasi). Presently he is working as Assistant professor in Botany Department of Govt. P.G. College, Magaraha (Mirzapur).
